MEET “AF RADIO” THE WONDERFUL ANDROID APP THAT ALLOWS YOU LISTEN TO 40 RADIO CHANNELS FROM GHANA.

If you’re observant you would discover that keeping up with radio stations and radio shows has become more difficult now than it was for mom and dad twenty(20) years ago. This is due to the fact that everyone is spending more and more time streaming videos on the internet, far more than they tune in to the radio. Well its cool…but there are still some people who think and feel that radio can still be used to tell our life stories and to reach out to the minds resident in the deepest rural places.

AF Radio is an android app that let’s radio enthusiasts listen to and discover indigenous radio stations and radio shows from the very heart of Ghana anywhere in the world. With the app, users can easily tune in or subscribe and listen to their favourite Ghanian radio shows. The app also allows users to queue up their channels, and let the app remind them when their favourite show starts airing. All for free!

Go social!

The app presents some unique features, one of which is that it allows users to ‘join’ any show and tweet their opinions while being able to see live tweets from the show right on the app. Yet another cute feature of the app is that it allows users to listen to playback any missed episode after it has been aired. So you never get to miss your favourite shows.

According to the founder and CEO of the platform, Bubunyo Nyavor, the app was created to help out in solving the challenges facing internet radio in Africa by “providing a richer native African experience on radio. Which involves discovering and plugging into channels from the heart of Africa and getting live updates on the hottest topics airing on Radio Africa”.

” At a time when we are all focused on sharing our stories in the internet and social media, radio provides a rich array of divers shows ranging from politics to sports”. Says Bubunyo.

AF Radio launched on October 19, 2016, with over 64 shows airing round the clock on about 40 channels. The app is just available on android and has not been launched on other smartphone platforms yet. The app can also play in the background, allowing you to do other tasks with your phone while you listen to radio. Its also free to use and does not include any charges apart from data charges(the radio shows are streamed through the internet).

Down sides 👎

What if a few channels from other African countries could be added, that would make the app richer. Another feature I noticed I couldn’t find is a live recording option to record a show while you’re listening to it so a user could save and listen to it anytime.

The last time I checked, the app had been rated by 15 people who gave it a 5-star rating. You can download it from android play store here
