Nigerian and West African e-commerce giant- konga has announced plans to invest in massive warehousing infrastructure, to boost delivery service.
Konga Nigeria’s largest e-commerce platform and shopping mall recently announced plans to expands its services by setting up warehouses for its base of over 60,000 merchants all across Nigeria. The new initiative has been named ‘fulfiled by konga’ and will allow over 60,000 merchants who currently sell their wares through the platform to store all their merchandise in konga’s warehouses and allow all orders on their merchandise to be handled and delivered by konga’s in-house team- the fulfilment team.
The initiative was introduced by konga as a pinpoint strategy to cut down delivery time by over 90% (from 40-3 hours). This will also make it easier for merchants to fulfil their orders and increase the reliability level of the platform. Right now, all 60,000 merchants have about three days to submit all their products and merchandise to the warehouses. From the warehouses, all items and products will be distributed as requested by the in-house konga delivery team.
The project is a nationwide expansion of the delivery within 24 hours system in Lagos. Konga’s flagship distribution center in Lagos is a rather big 60,000 sq ft warehouse and houses over 200,000 items, but with the new ‘fulfilled by konga’ launched recently, there are plans to double the size of the infrastructure by 2017.
