Nigerian and West African e-commerce giant- konga has announced plans to invest in massive warehousing infrastructure, to boost delivery service.

Konga Nigeria’s largest e-commerce platform and shopping mall recently announced plans to expands its services by setting up warehouses for its base of over 60,000 merchants all across Nigeria. The new initiative has been named ‘fulfiled by konga’ and will allow over 60,000 merchants who currently sell their wares through the platform to store all their merchandise in konga’s warehouses and allow all orders on their merchandise to be handled and delivered by konga’s in-house team- the fulfilment team.

The initiative was introduced by konga as a pinpoint strategy to cut down delivery time by over 90% (from 40-3 hours). This will also make it easier for merchants to fulfil their orders and increase the reliability level of the platform. Right now, all 60,000 merchants have about three days to submit all their products and merchandise to the warehouses. From the warehouses, all items and products will be distributed as requested by the in-house konga delivery team.

The project is a nationwide expansion of the delivery within 24 hours system in Lagos. Konga’s flagship distribution center in Lagos is a rather big 60,000 sq ft warehouse and houses over 200,000 items, but with the new ‘fulfilled by konga’ launched recently, there are plans to double the size of the infrastructure by 2017.

Speaking during the launch of the initiative, konga CEO, Shola Adekoya: Konga has cemented a name for itself as an engine of Commerce & Trade in Africa, and the infrastructure project we are currently deploying has been developed to act as a catalyst for the entire e-commerce market in Nigeria. ‘Fulfilled by Konga’ is a dynamic solution that makes the process of doing business easier and more effective for our tens of thousands of merchants, whilst our customers will benefit from far shorter waiting times for their orders.

“Warehousing and distribution is notoriously challenging in Nigeria; we have set ourselves a Herculean task of building a network of technologically advanced warehousing sites across Nigeria, that will bring speedy, cost efficient sales solutions for our growing number of merchants looking to do business online, and will act as a considerable boost to Nigeria’s growing eCommerce sector”.

Konga was launched in Nigeria in 2012 as Nigeria’s first online retailer with the mission “to grow and become the engine of commerce and trade in Africa”. Konga has recorded massive growth in its first four years, with a website that attracts thousands of visitors every hour and has over 200,000 products from almost a hundred categories available for order. Konga has offices in Nigeria, South Africa and hubs around Wear Africa.
