IS JACK ‘N’ JILL BISCUIT REALLY POISONOUS?

There is this fake message that has been going round claiming that full cream biscuits, Jack n Jill Lausanne  is poisonous and has killed people in South Africa. Please forget it, its just a big scam. The biscuit is a very popular biscuit in Nigeria and its creamy filling and flavour makes it stand out among the rest. I have eaten countless times, and will continue to eat it. In fact I ate it today and wasn’t poisoned.

I have received countless messages from WhatsApp, Facebook, twitter and even text messages warning me to avoid eating the biscuits, saying that it had killed 45 people in some African country or the other. The problem is, these messages contradict each other and that’s number pointer that they are scam. Some messages claim it killed 45 people in Kenya, others say it killed 55 in Zambia, another message I received said it killed 43 in South Africa.

The hoax message

The biscuits hasn’t killed anyone in Nigeria, in fact none of these anti-product hoaxes has killed anyone in Nigeria. I have done a bit of research and discovered that the ministry of health in these countries mentioned have not even confirmed the killings as true. NAFDAC hasn’t even confirmed it, and I don’t see why a brand will just want to go out of business by putting a mysterious chemical that will kill people.

The message has the same format as all other hoaxes that we have seen in the past. Remember the crunchies biscuit hoax, it was the same number(45) of people that the message reported to be dead from eating crunchies in South Africa. I have a strong feeling that someone just copied that message, and replaced crunches with Jack n Jill biscuits. Til today, the crunchies hoax hasn’t been confirmed as true.

Please, don’t get me wrong, manufacturing error could introduce harmful chemicals into biscuits, but we should be careful not to let some jobless people deprive us of the joy of enjoying our favourite products. Sometimes these hoaxes are inspired and propagated by fierce rivals in the same business.
