NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE TO INCREASE COST OF INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT.

Muhammad Babandede, NIS Comptroller-General

In an ICT event organized in Abuja few days ago, the Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service suggested that their would soon be an increase in the cost of acquiring international passport booklet. He gave his reasons to be that there has been a significant increase in the cost of production materials.

Muhammed Babandede was speaking at the flagging off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology, ICT, for Immigration officers, organized in conjunction with Huawei Technologies Company, in Abuja.
“It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed,” Babandede said.
So far, we don’t know when the new change will be implemented, but it could be as soon as the first half of next year. As for the expected price, we just hope kit won’t be latest commodity to double in price. I’ll hit you with more details later. By the way… Do you think the increase is uncalled for? Dont you think the government should set some funds aside to subsidize the cost? What’s do you think?
