Hello, how are you doing? We’ve been off for a while and we apologize, anyway, good thing is we are back and better for real 😀. And so.. We are starting a with a product from Colgate-Palm Olive.
Obviously, right from the very first moment you had your teeth cleaned, you were introduced to one of the various brands of toothpaste, probably the Closeup or Macleans family. And so you could be wondering what a mouthwash is, or what effect it has on dental health. Alright, first of all, mouthwashes are not meant to replace the good old ‘pastes’ you brush your teeth with. Mouthwashes are liquid ‘mouth-freshening’ chemicals that clean off bacteria from your mouth without needing a toothbrush. All you need to do is take a little amount and swirl it for several seconds in your mouth for even distribution.
Unlike toothpastes which are thick and gel-like, mouthwashes are pure liquids with similar constituents. There is an added advantage here because, liquids contain molecules that are free to move about, this means that the liquid mouthwash eats deaper into more places, wiping off bacteria. So why can’t I replace my toothpaste with a mouthwash on that shelf? Well, toothpastes contain more fluoride than mouthwash. Medically its not advisable to use a mouthwash immediately after brushing, as this dilutes the bacteria killing fluoride deposited in your mouth by the toothpaste. But mouthwashes could be used after a good meal or when you just need to add a fresh fragrance to your mouth. Rather than gurgling up water noisily for several minutes and all the time, a little amount of mouthwash will do the task. Second point on toothpaste vs mouthwash is that toothpaste contains abrasives and its jelly nature will ensure it doesn’t drop off your toothbrush like the liquid mouthwash would happily do.
Before we roll down to a stop, I would like to introduce a good brand of mouthwash which I have been using for a while. The Colgate Plax Mouthwash, from the stables of Colgate toothpaste. I’ve been using this product for a while and I’ve met more than a dozen or so who have nothing but good words to say about the product. Its also officially recognized by the International Dental Federation. Colgate mouthwash contains a blend of sodium chloride, Sodium saccharin, aqua, glycerine, zinc citrate, alcohol and a lot of other valuable ingredients. Colgate mouthwash:
1. Helps reduce teeth stains by about 40%.
2. Maintain fresh breath.
3. Cut-down on tooth decay and bacterial activity.
3. Prevent germ activitity.
So that’s it… As for the side effects, I’ll have to be honest here, I’ve seen a lot of peeps who insist Colgate has left ugly scars in their mouth, and I wouldn’t want to claim the big boss here. Colgate contains alcohol at a level that is a little above normal and this may not go down well with some people. So I would strongly advise discretion and carefulness when using the product. Colgate mouthwash could also be harsh of mouth sores or on a scalded tongue.
In Nigeria, Colgate Plax Mouthwash could be found on the shelves of supermarkets and drugstores. And it sells for below N1000.00. Its packaged in a plastic 500ml volume bottle, Colgate Plax Mouthwash is a green-blue liquid with a scent similar to that of Colgate toothpaste. For now, the herbal variety is a little too scarce in Nigeria.
