NAFDAC IMPOUNDS AND DESTROYS PRODUCTS WORTH N105 MILLION IN NASARAWA AND BENUE STATES.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) located in Nasarawa and Benue states jointly destroyed a huge bulk of fake drugs and unwholesome products amounting to N105 million. The news was announced today by the acting Director General of NAFDAC , Mrs. Yetunde Oni. She said the activity was a periodical exercise by the agency to control the spread of fake drugs and illegal products in the country. She also revealed that much of the products were handed over voluntarily by a few governmental and nongovernmental bodies while the rest were impounded from various markets in the states.

The safety of Nigerians as far as food and drug consumption is not negotiable and NAFDAC has continued to ensure this. Mrs. Yetunde opined that a dealer in fake drugs was worse than an armed robber and so the agency is working hard to get Nigerian lawmakers to place a death penalty on culprits. But despite all the activities of NAFDAC against fake products, especially destroying a total of 30 billion naira in fake drugs alone in the last three years, many criminals are still doing the business in the shadows away from spotlight. And completely enjoying the benefits to the detriment of Nigerian citizens.

NAFDAC revealed that few months ago, fake products worth over N24 million were destroyed in Nasarawa, but these time, between Nasarawa and Benue states, 80% of the products came from the later. The agency also used the opportunity to appeal to the public for their support, encouraging individuals to report any suspicious activity suggesting smuggling and ferrying of fake products.
