On Sunday night at the Glo music gala awards, 2Face was officially unveiled as the newest Glo ambassador. I’m not trying to be a bad belle o, but it is funny how a company will deliberately leave the real thing and spend millions of naira chasing shadows. 2Face used to be a former ambassador of airtel until weeks back when his contract expired and he refused to renew it, fasttrack to Sunday night, everyone knew what his ‘personal reason’ was when he was announced as the new member of the Glo celebrity crew.

I’m sorry for being blunt here, but Glo, the famed grandmasters of data are clueless. How can you spend so much money signing music and Nollywood stars, sponsoring shows and yet apart from a few areas in Lagos and Abuja and maybe Port Harcourt, people cannot just use your network with peace of mind? How can you sign ambassadors to market your services when your services are of low quality.
Every year Glo holds several promos, hinging on the flat data prices they offer, yes their data can be so cheap, almost at give-away, but what about the useless network that comes with the data. After using my friend’s Glo Sim to browse on several nights, and after facing all the embarrassment from poor Glo network (even at midnight!), I swore never to buy Glo SIM, even if it is being sold for N10! It is only in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt that the Glo network is okay(still not as good as its competitors anyway) , but Nigeria has over 80 million mobile phone users scattered around the remains 33 states. So why can’t Glo work on improving their network, or are they deliberately playing the game of ignorance to their own detriment?
I will continue to enjoy their shows, including my favorite ‘Professor John Bull’ and wish stars like Tuface, Wizkid, Mama G and the rest well as they continue to enjoy the booty of their Glo contracts.
