Globacom Nigeria has partnered with HAUWEI to land a submarine cable in the oil rich region of Nigeria. The development will ensure that Glo had the fastest data link-up from Lagos to London and it will be the first time a submarine cable is landing elsewhere in Nigeria apart from Lagos.

The submarine cable will be named Glo 2 and it will stretched out following an upgrade of Glo 1 sometime in May 2018. According to Technical director at Globacom, Sanjib Roy, the Glo 2 cable will ensure very fast connectivity that is sure to boost internet access in the region.

Also, with the Glo 2, Globacom is nursing big plans to expand to other nations outside Nigeria. Glo also believes that with a data transfer capacity of 12TB, the cable will be a massive development in building voice and data communication infrastructure in Nigeria. There is also the belief that by launching the cable in the south region of Nigeria, it will further boost satellite surveillance and oil activities in the region.
