Roughly 5-7 years ago, data plans were almost as scarce as
gold, and 10MB could be bought for as much as N100. But with the
trend of things, all that seems to be drifting away to the past. Data
plans in Nigeria are becoming incredibly, almost ridiculously cheap,
thanks to the data-glutton we call android.
Right now there is a silent yet fierce race to the bottom as
telecom companies –MTN, GLO, AIRTEL and ETISALAT fight for the souls
of data loving Nigerians, bringing the overall price of data to the
lowest depths.

In the last four months, MTN has offered  outrageous amounts of
data for the most ridiculous prices. Earlier this year, some customers
were qualified by MTN to enjoy a data service package of 6GB for just
N100 lasting for 24Hrs. And then came 2GB for N120. And right now the
trending freak is the night plan, N25 for 500MB, from 12am to 4am. On
the other hand, general data offers are still reducing, 1.5GB now goes
for N1000, and 3.5GB(double +500MB extra) goes for N2000. Remember
when android became popular and MTN was selling 250MB for N1000?
What about the WOW! surprise, that surprises with as much as
2GB when you recharge during the weekend?

GLO’s data plans are turning into something beyond normal. Reputed to  be the cheapest in terms of data, GLO almost gives away data for free  these days. On the always micro plan, GLO gives as much as 12GB for  just N3000, and 18GB for just N4000, 2GB for N1000 and 6GB for N2000.  Isn’t it crazy? One though, GLO network coverage is almost as good as  useless in many major cities in Nigeria. I stay in Awka, Anambra and I can confirm that GLO network in Awka is just too bad!

I wouldn’t say airtel is that cheap yet. But I think they are
loosening up fast. Their monthly data offers are similar with MTN. You
can get N1.5GB for N1000 (for android users) and 4.5GB for N3500.
Still cool. For a list of airtel plans visit-

Used to be the most expensive network in terms of data, but that is
fast changing. Etisalat has launched itself into the race for the
cheapest data offers. The cheapest android plan on Etisalat is the 1GB
plan for N1000. Their blackberry plans are also very cheap.

I’ve been surfing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.

Great blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely confused .. Any ideas? Kudos!|

Lol… I’m not the ‘blogging-tips’ kind of blogger, but I can help you a bit. Noella, I think you should go for the paid option right away, by hosting your blog on a paid host. It will help start you off on the right part. But if you hope to cut low on cost, you could try a free option like blogger or WordPress.
