Emerging Markets Telecommunications Service (EMTS), which was previously known as Etisalat Nigeria has announced officially that the company has been rebranded to 9Mobile. The new development cones after the Arab owners of the company were meant to exit the company, after a major takeover by a consortium of Nigerian banks.

However, Boye Olusanya has played down any possibility of a fold-up, insisting that the change of brand name is a clear indicator that company still has interests in doing business as Nigeria’s fourth largest telecoms firm.

Mr. Olusanya also said that the name 9Mobile and the number can be traced to the 0809ja heritage, “its 9ja centricity” and the 9 years evolution period the company has gone through. He also said, that despite the change of brand name, all values and goals will still be retained within the company.
